Bologna - domenica 6 aprile - 9877 passi

We had decided to set the alarm early on Sunday morning, so that we could make the most of our last day in Bologna.

Having a coffee before breakfast on the terrace at Bar Vittorio Emanuele overlooking an empty Piazza Maggiore. È magico!

See the city slowly awaken and visit the Basilica di San Petronio even before the 9 o'clock mass.

One more walk through brilliant colored Bologna and its under the alluring arched galleries in the beautiful morning light with long shadows.

Breakfast at Hotel Internazionale and back to the airport by monorail.

How this charming city surprised us and I can say that Bologna has definitely entered my top 3 of Italian cities.

Bologna - sabato 5 aprile - 23710 passi

Drinks at the Corner Bar in Via Saragozza

San Luca walk. On this Saturday morning we went to the Porta Saragozza, an old city gate west of the city center, where the longest covered colonnade in the world begins. This endlessly beautiful gallery leads to the basilica Madonna di San Luca, high on a hill above the city. The four kilometer long portico has no less than 666 arches!

Lunch Corner Bar on the way back from San Luca.

Casa Morandi - In the afternoon we visited the former apartment and atelier of the artist Giorgio Morandi. Dutch artist Klaas Gubbels has been inspired by Giorgio Morandi since he was seventeen. The very entertaining documentary about Gubbels that I recently saw, made a visit to Casa Morandi a must during our visit to Bologna. [‘When you see this, you think, what a boring mess,’ says Gubbels in the documentary about Morandi’s work. ‘But gradually that boringness started to affect me. Between us: I stole it a bit.’]

Drinks with homemade carrotcake at the Zoo Bar. The exhibition OUT OF THE CAGE Picturebook Makers Roaming Wild and Free, shows prototypes, original tables, sketches, published and unpublished books by twenty-four illustrators from all over the world. With a colorful dose of inspiration and a beautiful poster we left this great place.

We had a super delicious dinner at at Ristorante Mangiassieme.
