mirror mirror

bathroom update bathroom update

Today's bathroom update.

Two vintage space age mirrors, one for him, one for her.

We found the first mirror by chance in a vintage shop in Rotterdam last month. I searched online for the second.
The mirrors are from an Ikea collection from 1969 and in perfect condition.

Isn't it special that after all these years they form a perfect pair in our bathroom?
I love those special interior items that make the space unique!

every day is a new day

january 2024 january 2024 january 2024 january 2024 january 2024 december 2023 december 2023 december 2023

december 2023 - january 2024

from the bottom up:

Last day of the year. Reading to Liam in the attic from Minne & Pippa's children's books (i know them by heart).

And also on the very last evening of 2023, browsing through our amazing photo yearbook together. 🍀 A year full of beautiful moments, travels, highlights, love and precious memories.

More grateful than ever, we can live in freedom, in a lovely house, close to our children and grandson, we can make plans for the new year and have dreams.
Wishing everyone the very best for 2024. Enjoy life even more! above all the little things, not tomorrow but now.

On new years day we went to Amsterdam to celebrate my friend Ank's birthday party.

Today on my day off I took a long bath. The lemon tree is wintering in the bathroom and is in full bloom, so while bathing i was surrounded by my favorite fragrance of lemon blossom.

I'm not really into New Year's resolutions, but more into 'Every day is a new day!', like the bold & bright tear-off calendar by Dutch graphic designer Karel Martens. For each day of the year, Martens has created a unique arrangement, originally constructed using his signature method of printing letterpress monoprints from found metal forms, and then digitized to comprise 365 compositions in total.

lemon blossom

lemon tree in blossom lemon tree in blossom

When I enter the bathroom, I imagine myself in a Moroccan courtyard garden.

The mini lemon tree that overwinters in the bathroom is now in full bloom. The Flower fragrance is superb! Nothing smells better than the blossom of the citrus tree.

ahhhh, the weekend

june june june june june

Friday evening. A lovely reason to be lazy.

After a crazy week at work, where things are slowly getting back to 'the new normal' and i don’t expect next week is going to be any less busy.

Today was another rainy day after weeks of sunshine. So nothing wrong with a bit of lazing around in the house, I don't have any plans for the weekend yet.

There’s not too much i like better than a long, hot bath after a long day’s work and I can easily bathe for an hour.

and then perhaps watch a good Spanish movie on TV with a drink. Cheers to the weekend!

New in my Etsy shop:

Set of two handmade bathroom mirrors. His and hers.

The mirrors are made of gray scrap wood with white paint remains and they are easy to attach to the wall with an iron wire at the back of the mirrors.

They only come as a set and can be shipped everywhere.

Could your bathroom use an eclectic touch?

First take a look in my ETSY SHOP.

small shells paradise

summer shells summer shells portugal 2015 portugal 2015 portugal 2015

Shells from the best souvenir shop we have ever visited, last summer in Portugal.

Imagine a shop full of shells, rocks and fossils. The owner was an old hippy who made the chains and mobiles himself. His shop was great, classic music in the background and special paintings on the wall (not for sale). He looked very happy and was so proud of his shop and showed us his bedroom on the mezzanine of the building, very romantic and totally zen.

summer brights

La Salle De Bain.

The bathroom is a bright space with lots of white. White instantly says summer and reflects the sunlight.

The colourful and quirky details make the bathroom even more sunny!
The deer with long curly lashes is made from recycled plastic in South Afrika, black & white ducks watering cans we found on Ile de Ré, brush and scrubs from Marrakech and the medicine cabinet we made ourselves from scrap wood.

The hammam towels we brought some years ago from Turkey. A good investment. We use them every single day in the bathroom and also use them on the beach and in the garden.

for mickey

birthday surprise stoolbirthday surprise stool

Some weeks ago I received a romantic request from Mickey's husband.

He wanted to surprise her with a stool and he send me a photo of the stool Mickey likes so much.
It's the snow white warm & woolly stool I've made for a sweet Australian about 3 years ago.

Today is Mickey's birthday and I would love to see her face when she gets her surprise stool... (and his)

Happy birthday Mickey!

bathroom rug

wood & wool harlequin rugwood & wool harlequin rug

This colorful harlequin rug I've made with homemade fabric yarn, using piles of old T-shirts.
Good combination of cleanup and reuse.
It's also a very cheap way to make a striking rug!

If you fancy to make this rug for your (bath)room, all you need is a hook size 12 and a huge pile of old T-shirt or about 2000 grams of fabric yarn.

You can buy the harlequin rug PATTERN in my Etsy shop!

piece of case

cool cotton pads covercool cotton pads cover

A crochet string bag is quite a project to make in one day during the Cool Crochet workshop, so I have designed a super cute cotton pads case for the bathroom.

Just love to invent new utensils!

Once it's there, you can't do without...

The cool crocheteers that joined the workshop in October all loved this bathroom perk up item! So I've wrote a detailed pattern for those who are interested.

The P A T T E R N in now available in my Etsy shop.

Piece of cake case!
