Thursday 9th of November - Amsterdam - 21238 steps

Sunny start to the day with breakfast in Ank's loft.

Morning walk in the Spaarndammerbuurt. The Spaarndammerbuurt neighbourhood has many beautiful social housing buildings from the early 20th century that are built in the style of the Amsterdam School of Expressionist architecture.

Museum Het Schip is located in the imaginative public housing complex designed by architect Michel de Klerk. This expressionist housing block was built in 1919 for the housing corporation Eigen Haard. Because of its shape, the building is popularly known as The Ship. It belongs to the top of the Amsterdam School, a movement in construction and decoration that spread throughout the Netherlands.

A walk to the ferry IJ Ferry to NDSM Amsterdam-Noord. Via Houthaven, a new sustainable residential area, between Spaarndammerbuurt.

Drinks at IJver, in the middle of the iconic NDSM wharf, in the industrial 100-year-old shipbuilding warehouse.

Vintage hunting at Van Dijk & Ko and Neef Louis.

Lunch at Eye Filmmuseum. We visited the exhibition by Greek artist and filmmaker Janis Rafa. Unfortunately, we were unable to obtain tickets for a film from the IDFA festival.

Ferry to Amsterdam CS.

Drinks & dinner at home.

Evening walk along the canals. Amsterdam at night is spectacular!

Wednesday 2nd of September.

After breakfast under the lemon tree we went to the harbour to buy the tickets for the ferry to Faro Island. Because there are only a few tickets available each hour, you have to make sure to book the tickets in time and also have to tell in front which ferry you want to take back. So you have to decide in advance, how many hours you want to stay on the island.

On our way to the harbour, we had a walk through the Alameda João de Deus Garden around the corner of our street. Something between a small botanical garden and a city park. We had coffee and cake on the terrace at the 'quiosque' in the park. The gardners were pruning the palm trees and the place was covered with beautiful huge palm leaves. I even considered to bring one home, but it was to big for my suitcase.
