Procida - Monday 3rd of June - 24407 steps

This Monday we walked to the port of Naples early in the morning to catch the boat to Procida at 9 am.

With the ferry from Caremar it was about a 40-minute boat ride to the island of Procida.

Upon arrival at the port we already saw the past-colored houses on the quay. Piece by piece in sweet and soft colors, like the flavors of Italian ice creams; pistacchio, fragola, banana, mirtillo, ciliegia, vaniglia, limone, mango, panna cotta...

The residents of Procida were still slowly starting up and we had an espresso con dolce on the terrace.

From the 'Marina Grande' we walked to Marina Corricella, a small fishing village where some fishing boats are floating in the water. And the tiny houses here are even more beautiful and colorful. Balconies full of laundry and staircases in beautiful round shapes, a characteristic architecture for the island.

We had lunch on the quay at Ristorante Il Pescatore, with organic, local and straight-from-the-sea ingredients. The waiter named Paradise, recommended the chef's specialty, insalata di limoni as a starter. So we first had the unforgettable “Lemon Salad”. Served in the tradition of Procida: large local 'bread' lemons, cut into strips and a very delicate seasoning.

Henk had pasta Fetuccine con Alici and I had mussels Impetpata di Cozze. Heavenly food, heavenly place.

After lunch we walked up a steep staircase to the highest point, from where an even more beautiful view, it's getting better and better today.

After lots of photography and an overdose of eye candy, we went to the small beach in the afternoon to recover from all bellezza.

While waiting for the boat, we had another drink and an ice cream. Sailing back to Napoli while snoozing on the boat on the return trip and thereafter we walked straight through Naples back to our house in Posillipo, which is an hour's walk.

In the evening we decide to eat nearby, because we don't feel like walking all that way back and end up at N'ata Cosa Mergellina. We agree, this is the best pizza in a long time. Naples and pizza, you simply can't go wrong.
