The Nederlands Fotomuseum reopend on 7 February 2026 in the Santos warehouse, a national monument located in the vibrant Katendrecht district of Rotterdam.

Built in 1901-1902, the Santos warehouse began life as a warehouse for coffee shipped from the Brazilian port city of Santos.

Fantastic exhibitions spread over six floors, a rooftop restaurant with panoramic views of the Rotterdam skyline. The "crown" of two additional floors with a semi-transparent facade had not yet opened.

We were before opening time and it was drizzling non-stop, so we had a hot drink and Turkish apple pie at the nearby Fenix Museum.

Last Saturday we had a drink in De Volkskeuken of Verhalenhuis Belvédère at the corner of the Deliplein in Katendrecht, hotspot of Rotterdam. We loved the place! Open kitchen in an old-fashioned cafe, racks packed with plates, stunning stained glass windows in the staircase. Authentic, simple, real and pure and a super relaxed atmosphere. People from Rotterdam prepare their favorite dishes and at the same time share their stories with the public.

Once Rotterdam's Chinatown, Katendrecht is now home to the hip and happening.
Over the past few years, this district has become one of the liveliest parts of the city without losing its rougher edges.
Cute little eateries, restaurants and bars are around every corner these days. It's a dream destination for foodies.
We had lunch at Posse, a restaurant & shop, where you can find vintage, bicycles and books.

One of the old Fenixloodsen quayside warehouse, now accommodates the Fenix Food Factory. It's an indoor market with fresh foods, where you can shop for authentic and traditional products and nice to wander around on this very cold winter day.
