year of vermeer

Last Saturday when we visited Delft, the Year of Vermeer started. (pure coincidence)

Up to Saturday there was not a real ‘Vermeer’ in Delft, the place where he was born, lived and worked as a painter. Finally after 320 years, one of his masterpieces 'Het Straatje'(The Little Street) can be seen in Delft until 17 July.
Just recently it became clear, where Vermeer painted his little street. There have been many theories about the exact location. But an old tax register proved that it was in Vlamingstraat 40-42, where Vermeer situated his painting. At the painting there are two gates, one is still recognizable today.
The Vlamingstraat is not far from the place where you can see the painting, at the Prinsenhof. The exhibition is called: Vermeer is coming home, the little street back in Delft.

We visited the Rijksmuseum last month and have seen 'Het Straatje van Vermeer' in Amsterdam, so we went to the Botanical Garden instead.

the knitted sweater dress

knitted sweater dress

The sweater dress is knitted, yes you read it right, I'm a knitter too (once in a while)...
As long as it is about wool and needles I am eager!

I've had lots of nice comments and questions about my handmade sweater in the previous blogpost.

In case it's not possible for you to order the knitted sweater dress pattern in my E T S Y shop, you can also send me an e-mail; info@woodwoolstool.com

And yes there's an E N G L I S H pattern of the knitted sweater dress too.

The polder shoot we did last Saturday just a few minutes from our home (no, we don't live on a farm), the harlequin socks are by Effio and the beanie is from Marrakech.

dutch & vintage

dutch & vintage by wood & wool stool
dutch & vintage, a photo by wood & wool stool on Flickr.
Saturday afternoon I went to see Lammie and we had tea.
Obviously I looked around in her pleasant shop, during our tea sip.
In a corner I found two iron plant holders.
I saw them hanging at our front door during the Christmas season, with red berries plants or candles in glass jars.
Once at home I noticed the amaryllis bulb lying on a plate and figured it would be nice to put it in my new pot holder.

Amaryllis bulbs have a high [Tulips from Holland] content.
I never really know whether I like them or not. As sprouting bulb I like them best, though with the cultivated flower it's not my cup of tea.

Some weeks ago Inck send me a traditional Dutch tile from Oh Marie (The Fellowship of the Travelling Vintage Items) and I think this vintage tile matches very well with the bulb and pot holders.

Who wants to be the next member of the Fellowship and welcome the waving girl with tulips?
