Lisboa - Monday 29th of June - day 11 of our roadtrip 2020

Coming 'home' in Lisbon!

We end our roadtrip through Portugal traditionally with a couple of days in Baixa House.

Blissfully happy to stand on the balcony of our Gulbenkian apartment again and hear Elétrico 28E (the iconic yellow tram) driving down the street.

Yeehaw, four days Lisbon ahead of us!

First a drink at the 'quiosque' of Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara and then to the botanical garden! Jardim Botânico in Lisbon is the most beautiful botanical garden I know.

I guess we had drinks on 6 different terraces that day...

  1. This time you´ll have the city just for yourself...

    1. That's certainly true, a mixed feeling.
Returning in an almost 'abandoned' Lisbon, was unique because it was so quiet and the authenticity was even more visible. On the other hand it made me sad to see the city is so quiet, knowing that so many people depend on the tourists. The last morning of our stay, when two of us were standing alone at the miradoura overlooking Lisbon and the only sound was chirping of birds. It was impressive and moving, I will never forget that moment...

    2. mixed feeling for me too. We have a house in Alfama and even if it went a bit to much crowded now it´s really sad to see all the litlle business closed. And my work place Marvila (near the river) was getting so alive with art galleries, beer factories and nice restaurants. Now all the energy that people put into it after the 2012 crisis just fade away in a few months. It´s still one of my favourite cities in the world and i love to live and work here but now looks a bit like a beautiful sad fado. Enjoy it. Maybe a bit to hot no? :)

    3. yes it's so so sad for all the people and we've seen the city becoming too crowed due to tourism too in the past years. we also now portugal from 2007 and know how it was before. we hope to return soon and during our stay we 'sponsored' as much as we could on the countless terraces ;-)
we are already back home for two weeks now and the weather has been perfect. good luck and fingers crossed for better times...
