summer beach stripes on the daybed - new burgundy & blue cover

new summer daybed cover with bordeaux & blue stripes new summer daybed cover with bordeaux & blue stripes new summer daybed cover with bordeaux & blue stripes

Summer beach stripes on the daybed.

The vintage bamboo daybed has been in our living room for 10 years now, i had to look that up in my blog archive ;)
Of which 5 years with the cover I've made from moroccan vintage Berber blankets.
High time for a new outfit, sunny stripes! It reminds of warm summer days, with sandy beaches and fresh sea air.

... and we borrowed the smaller striped cushions from the other sofa.

august

1st of august - yves saint laurent august august august

Saturday, 1st of August.

We celebrated my birthday at home with family.
Unlike previous years, when we used to celebrate my birthdays abroad. But hey, it was a lovely summerday and it felt just as special as a 'holiday birthday', like the ones in Cadiz, Madrid, Pamplona, Berlin, Antwerp...

Nowadays we travel in the early and late season, so I will be celebrating my birthday probably at home more often in the future. Nothing wrong with that...

Dahlias on the table. The August flowers par excellence!

My birthday party was relaxed, with the kids, my sisters and niece. We ate cake, had lunch together at the round kitchen table and dined in the garden.

And evermore it feels kinda special Yves Saint Laurent was born also on the first of August.

His characteristic portrait, which we found in Lisbon some weeks ago, got a 'place of honor' in the hallway.

xs woodwoolstool 2020

xs woodwoolstool 2020 xs woodwoolstool 2020

A new xs woodwoolstool design.

I made a brandnew cover, for the handmade moroccan mini-stool.

The xs stools are perfect for toddlers, the nursery, as a footstool and you can even use it as a small (bedside) table.

Toddlers love it! They can drag this size-cute stool anywhere themselves. I'm sure this 'toy' will be their favorite piece of furniture.

Have a look at the size-cute collection in my ETSY SHOP.

daybed sofa - paul smith, moroccan style

daybed sofa daybed sofa daybed sofa daybed sofa daybed sofa daybed sofa

Ta-da! our 'new' daybed sofa.

October interior boost! Two unique handwoven moroccan blankets completely changed the look of this corner.

The vintage bamboo daybed is transformed into a striped sofa, by replacing the mishmash of pillows by 3 sturdy pillows.

I sewed three pillow covers and used the fabric of one blanket. The daybed is covered with the another blanket.

It's an utterly different sofa. A sophisticated striped sofa. Paul Smith, moroccan style ;-)

I just love it!

And nothing new was purchased for the change of the daybed corner. Klimt painting and desk lamp on the table, we re-decorated with the things we had. Something I love too.

eclectic style

eclectic style eclectic style eclectic style eclectic style

Well, to cut a vintage moroccan handwoven blanket into pieces was the most scary part of my newest project...

A beautiful unique piece! I bought the blanket in Marrakech some years ago.

I'm gonna make some sturdy pillows for our bamboo daybed, so we can also use it as a sofa. And not just to hang on or take a nap on it.

The plan was to make all three covers today. It already took me forever to make the first cut. After a few hours, a couple of broken needles, I finally succeeded to finish only one pillow cover with a zipper at the bottom. The woven fabric is quite a challenge to sew!

Pillow one is done! I am more than satisfied with the result, especially with my average sewing skills it was a tricky project.

Monday I will continue with the two remaining covers. First purchase a few spare needles, before I can continue. At least now I know how to do it and the other two pillows will be 'a piece of cake'.

The advantage of my studio is that I can close the door and leave everything on the floor and don't have to tidy up the mess.

Have a nice and relaxing weekend everyone! ... and some of you may enjoy an extra hour of sleep tonight.

PS: In the next post I will take you back to Essaouira again.

monday nook

moroccan wool cool crochet workshop moroccan wool

My monday afternoon nook, from where I'm working on a new crochet project* surrounded by spools of moroccan wool, i've brought home from Marrakech over the years.

A mini 'crochet picnic' on the daybed, after a busy weekend.

not yet completely sure what it will be...
a curtain for my studio?
a daybed cover?
or maybe a baby blanket?

light light light

hand knitted blanket - 100% wool

Wow, it feels like it is spring already.

Mid February and the temperatures are rising to serious spring level.

The next few days are filled with sunshine and what I like most about it; the light!

Although we have a rather light living room with white walls and light furniture, it can be quite dark during the winter months. The daybed space evokes the fresh feeling in the afternoon when the shadows of the plant are playing on the wall.

The hand knitted blanket is now for sale in my ETSY SHOP.

Size: 230 x 150 centimeter

Material: 100% New Zealand Wool, hand knitted in Nepal (fairtrade)

retro woodwoolstool

woodwoolstool bamboo daybed

At the moment I'm working on a pair of 'good old' traditional woodwoolstools.

Have not been making them for a long, long time in this 'old-fashioned' way (it's how I started more than 10 years ago), until a request came last week.

I still have to make the scrap wood stools, so I tested the handmade woolen case on another stool.
...and where would the color inspiration come from?
