Another unique handmade piece!

For the stool legs I used different types of scrap wood, both sides have a different look.
On one side is pastel green and on the other side is made of pale grey wood.
The white crochet cover I've made with moroccan yarn.

eclectic

An eclectic version of the wood & wool stool. A new design. It's a combination of harlequins, multicolored woolen fringes and natural crochet, inspired by our Moroccan rugs.
I am more than satisfied with the result.
The eclectic stool looks beautiful everywhere in the house.

Usually this happens on the kitchen table.
This has become a kind of ritual.
At least I have an image of the stools, because some stools I want to keep.

With some measuring tape around [the red makes it], it's the umpteenth cute coffee table in tha house.

back to 'stool' business

After a short break, I'm back to business.

The last months of 2011 consisted mainly of wood (making x-mas trees) and it's so cool making stools again, because I missed the woolly part a bit.

The first wood & wool stool of 2012 has arrived at it's destination.
Eveline asked me to make a similar stool like this one and she let me know yesterday, she's very pleased with it.

I have some new ideas bubbling in my head. When all ongoing orders have been updated, I will focus on that!

After many requests with detailed wishes, concerning wood, colors and patterns,
sometimes I receive an 'at its sole discretion' order.

The lady in question (just moved from Barcelona to Amsterdam) had only one wish; no white...

Yay, that's my thing.

It's super fun to make things upon request,
but this stool also was a pleasant job.

What I love about the 'handmade' is the ever changing combination of patterns, colors, wood and wool.

You never know exactly how it will be and along the way it always turns into a unique piece.

wood & wool stool meets household hardware

Approximately one year ago I met Anke of Household Hardware in her shop at the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam.

After a few minutes there was a click and we had a nice conversation about stools & crochet & Morocco; our cooperation plan was born.

Household Hardware imports handmade stools of recycled wood from Marrakech and at that time Anke just started a crochet project with Moroccan women. What a coincidence! She suggested it would be great to produce my design of the traditional crochet cover for the wood & wood stool in Morocco. I made some samples in different colors in the most traditonal pattern and after one year of development, the stools are now available in the wholesale.

The large orders that are impossible for me to make myself, can now be processed.
The design seems to be a success and the stools have been purchased by several European shops in Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Ibiza en London.

Meanwhile I have designed the prototype of a pouf, so the collection will soon be expanded.

Today I met Anke in the wholesale in Amsterdam and we are both very happy with the outcome of our cooperation.

I still continue to make stools in a variety of patterns and colors, as I have done so far. It always remains possible, to order a wood & wool stool in your favorite color and pattern. I've been inspired by this 'adventure' to design new stools and products.

By the way, Anke's beautiful (bed & breakfast) home Chambre Demi in Marrakech is featured in the June issue of Elle Wonen.

destination down under

After Belgium, Germany, United Kingdom, France, Spain, Italy, Slovenia, United States, Japan, Taiwan, Brazil and Rwanda, there are now two wood & wool stools on their way to Sydney and Freshwater in Australia.

It's beyond expectations and so cool the stools are across all continents. I still intend to hang an old large world map in my workplace to indicate the places where they are home now.

Last week I have been working on a new project for a customer; a "pied de stalle". It was a bit of calculating and drawing, but actually the same concept as the normal wood & wool stool. The pied de stalle is obviously meant as a table for a large vase of flowers or a plant. The top exceptionally is made of colored recycled wood instead of the traditional crochet cover. The object has ultimately become two times as high as the regular stool. It turned out quite pretty and I wish I could keep it myself.

For a photo shoot of nine new stools and the pied de stalle we drove with the 2CV (yes, it's being repaired again!) to a large wooden barn of a fruit farm in the neighborhood. During unloading the stools, some curious chickens came to take a closer look to what was happening on their farmyard. The fruit farmer himself even sprinkled some bread to keep the spontaneous models on the set. It was really fun and a big cackling.

You can soon admire the pied de stalle in cafe restaurant Usine. Usine is located in the icon of Eindhoven, the Lighthouse, the former Philips lamp factory. This magnificent building was built in 1919.

The fun thing about my company is a custom made order. Some customers send an order form with a very detailed description of the product they have in mind.

It is wonderful to read this detailed description of the stool; the favorite color combination of the wool cover and even the colors of the wooden legs and crossbars.

The photo gallery on my website is often used for inspiration. It happens that I get a request for a stool as "yvonne" but with a red edge instead of a pink one.

The many names for colors are a delight. It is not just blue, but marine or petrol or sea blue or turquoise. I am not the type that only mentions the basic colors but always need to add an adjective to the color. (and it's nice to know that there are other people like me).

My wool storage is growing by the week and especially the greens and blues have quite a few variants.

The most original custom made order so far, I received this week from someone in New York. She has ordered a stool as a wedding gift for her friends and wants their wedding date carved in one of the wooden legs. How romantic is that? Like ♥ & initials carved in a tree. Once this stool is finished I will of course publish a picture.

Yeah, yesterday I received my own unique hand-carved stamp made by Vlijtig.

Kristel and I agreed to do a swap; a custom made stool-stamp for a little recycled wooden tree.

The stamp is even cooler than expected and when I unwrapped it, I hardly couldn't resist stamping everything. Hereafter there will be no stool sent to it's new home without an original woodwoolstool stamp on it.

And on the first day of a brand new year I wish you all a HAPPY NOW HERE!

Today I went to the post-office to send six mega boxes with stools to their several destinations. It's quite a hassle to load and unload the car and I even considered to exchange my 2CV for a 2CV-van.

Fortunately there was a place for my car just around the corner of the post-office and an old man helped me to open the heavy door. The little agency was at once filled with my boxes. I informed the lady behind the counter about the concerning shipping addresses and it felt pretty cool to send my handmade stools around the world. Today they went to Breda, Den Bosch (both in the Netherlands), Wentorf (Germany) and two to Warabi City, Saitama (above Tokyo - Japan)

It has been a super busy week but I feel satisfied now, knowing that the stools will arrive before Christmas in their new homes.
